3. Objects

3.1 What is an Object?

Objects are items of cultural and/or historical significance that make up a museum’s collection. An Object may have many different Stories and Events attached to it. Users can add existing Objects or upload new Objects to their Dossier.

3.2 How do I add existing Objects to a Dossier?

The best way to start researching in Storyscope is to add Objects to your Dossier. In your Dossier, click on the ADD AN OBJECT button. From this point you have several options for adding Objects:

OPTION 1: Add a Storyscope Object [an Object from another user’s Dossier]

  1. In the STORYSCOPE tab, you can browse all Objects currently in Storyscope

  2. Use the filters and keyword search on the right to refine your search or just scroll to browse

  3. Select an Object to add to your Dossier by clicking on ADD+

  4. Continue adding Objects or click on your Dossier title in the crumb trail to navigate back to the Dossier

OPTION 2: Add an Object from a selection of trusted museum collections

  1. Select the tab labelled COLLECTIONS

  2. Here you can browse, filter, search through Objects from selected trusted sources including National Gallery of Ireland Essential Guide, Alinari Archives, VADS & Rijksmuseum

  3. Select an Object to add to your Dossier by clicking on ADD+

  4. Continue adding Objects or click on your Dossier title in the crumb trail to navigate back to the Dossier

3.3 How do I add a new Object to a Dossier?

  1. Click on CREATE NEW OBJECT

  2. Complete this form; this is the equivalent of the info found on a museum label. The title is mandatory. Hover over HELP for assistance

  3. Click SAVE. The Object is now in your Dossier

  4. A blank Story has been automatically added to this Object for you, which you will need to edit [Follow instructions under ‘How do I edit a blank Story?’]
